To start with, the English Club of the overseas study class of Anqing Foreign Language School has always been a distinctive language feature on the campus since its establishment, which starts with meticulously designed novel topics and centers on the training of native English thinking, building a bridge across cultures and expressions for the students. Under the inspiring guidance of experienced foreign teacher Tim, each event is like a journey of thought exploration - the students' enthusiasm for learning is continuously ignited, and their language skills grow quietly in a relaxed and free atmosphere, which is not only the regular stage for the students of the overseas study class but also increasingly attracts many students to actively participate. Different backgrounds of thinking collide and blend here, jointly creating a diverse and vivid picture of English learning.
In the meantime, let's zoom in on the passage of time and together relive those wonderful moments filled with wisdom and laughter during the first semester of the 2025-2026 academic year!
For instance, during this event, teacher Tim led us to jointly achieve three clear and meaningful goals: Firstly, we reviewed together the highlights of the classic topics and ideological clashes from the previous semester; Secondly, we jointly created the discussion agenda for the new semester in an open manner, each member's interests serving as the most important guide for our progress; Finally, we specially recognized the 'Club Stars' who actively participated and fully committed in the previous semester, whose enthusiasm and dedication have always been the most precious asset of this collective.
Furthermore, in the second phase of the English Club event, we were honored to have the foreign teacher William as a special guest, who joined us in a profound dialogue that transcended cultures and beliefs, focusing on the inspiring life of Malala Yousafzai, the Nobel Peace Prize winner from Pakistan. Under the guidance of William and Tim, not only did the students discuss her courageous path in fighting for women's education rights, but also engaged in critical discussions from various perspectives such as language learning, international vision, and social responsibility.
What's more, through this topic, not only were we exploring an unsolved mystery, but also constructing a way of thinking: maintaining curiosity in uncertainty, seeking understanding in complex issues, and recognizing ourselves in the vast universe. In the discussions at English Club, students could also simultaneously enhance their mastery of English scientific terms, their ability to express in academic discussions, and their perspective on cross-cultural communication - after all, if extraterrestrial civilizations exist, the one we will face will be the ultimate 'cross-cultural communication'. Ultimately, this question may have no answer, but the process of seeking the answer itself has already made us become more open-minded, and more exploratory thinkers.
Besides, foreign teacher Tim and the students had an in-depth discussion about the rapid development of artificial intelligence - it was like a beam of light, which not only illuminated the prospects of efficiency and innovation, but also cast shadows on ethics, employment and privacy. Meanwhile, students objectively analyzed the opportunities and challenges brought by AI, understanding the duality of technological development.
Additionally, foreign teacher Tim asked the students to imagine what the classroom would be like in 25 years' time - if AI became the teacher in the classroom, what would the learning space look like? How would students interact with AI? What kind of transformation would occur in the essence of education? This part stimulated students' bold imagination and innovative thinking, encouraging everyone to reconstruct the future educational landscape.
Last but not the least, in the 'Yellow River' theme exploration activity of the senior one overseas study class, the students carried out a wonderful presentation through group cooperation, during which each group delved deeply into various perspectives such as the history, ecology, and cultural spirit of the Yellow River. Moreover, group members took on different responsibilities, including researching materials, writing manuscripts, creating multimedia, and delivering the speech on the spot. Therefore, not only was the presentation informative but also full of creativity and collaborative highlights. Afterwards, the class teacher and all the observing students conducted a comprehensive evaluation and scoring of each group's performance based on aspects such as content, expression, cooperation, and creativity.
To conclude, film appreciation is a significant part of English learning. In this English Club activity, foreign teacher Tim led the students to watch the selected clips of 'Live Alone'. After the viewing, they engaged in interactive questions about the details of the film to help the students deeply understand the plot's connotation. Later on, each participant was required to complete a 150-word English writing exercise based on the film.
